Slopes and uneven grades around a home are more than just an eyesore - they can cause real problems over time. Soil erosion, poor drainage, and unstable ground near the foundation are all things that get worse the longer they go unaddressed. This Platteville property had exactly that kind of situation, and we came in to fix it the right way.
We built a multi-section limestone retaining wall along the back of the home to hold the grade in place and clean up the slope. Limestone is a great choice for this type of work. It's heavy, it's durable, and it has a natural look that fits in well with the landscape rather than fighting against it. Each block was placed to step into the hillside and create a solid, stable wall that's built to hold.
What we ended up with is a finished look on both sides of the home's rear walkout area - two wall sections that work together to frame the space and keep that slope in check. The grading got cleaned up, the ground got stabilized, and the whole back of the property looks intentional now instead of rough and unfinished.
This is the kind of work that pays off for years. A well-built retaining wall doesn't just look good right away - it prevents the kind of soil movement and drainage headaches that can cost a lot more to fix later. If you've got a slope, a grade issue, or drainage that keeps causing problems, this is the type of solution that actually holds up.
